The Library Reform Group, the three Friends of the Library groups, Save Our Branches, and Not about the Buildings got their message before the public yesterday afternoon loud and clear.
Now it’s up to YOU: call or write the Mayor to tell him to GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND FIXED THE FLAWED LIBRARY AGREEMENT:
(1) It should have a provision guaranteeing that the Washington Park Branch be reopened by September 1.
(2) It should have an escape clause so that the City can withdraw from the agreement next June, if the PPL decides to cut services next year. THIS IS A FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT. As it is written, the City must maintain the same level of library funding for all four years, even if PPL closes ALL the branches next year and keeps them closed through 2012.
Contact your council representative, too, and tell them not to ratify this flawed contract until it is amended.
Thanks for your support.
